Great Defense of Marriage Equality

...from an NFL linebacker.  See the post here.  He gets right to a point that really should be crucial:

"First and foremost, church and state are supposed to be completely separated when it comes to the rule of law in the United States. So the religious argument that God meant for only man and woman to be together has no bearing here! America is not Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Mormon, Catholic, or any other religion that is out there. And the pantheon of gods can attest that there are hundreds of them. We are a secular capitalistic democracy. That's it."

Preventing same-sex couples from marrying is forcing them to live by other people's religion.  It is unfair, it is cruel, and it should stop.

I would also add that the separation of church and state here in this country has allowed religion to flourish. There are many more religious believers in this country than in say, Europe, where most countries have, or had until recently, an established religion.

Amen! Thanks for posting this. I'm a Californian who is thoroughly ashamed that Proposition 8 passed.

Yes, that was a heartbreaker even for many non-Californians. I keep in mind, though, that in the end those who are for marriage equality have won... younger people are in favor of it, so it will happen. I just grieve for those having to live their life now without equal rights.
